De Paardekreek to Kortgene

Wednesday, 26th June, 2019

We slipped our lines after breakfast to go in to the Kortgene Delta Marina. Our passage was a total of 1.2 miles. Once outside, Carole called the marina for berthing instructions and we were allocated C14, which was a box mooring. We found the berth, but looked at each other enquiringly as we could see the back of the pontoon but the piles appeared to be about 14M out with both the adjoining berths vacant and no dividing rope back to the pontoon. Chris decided to go in astern and had a few attempts to get the bow round, but on the third attempt with a bit more pace the bow turned and we had the stern going in. Carole was on the bow ready to catch the piling and as soon as it was in range plopped the bow line over and secured it on the boat. By this time the stern was near the pontoon and Chris jumped off and got a line on a cleat. We were in and safe and now just needed to sort out the rest of our lines and we could relax.

Kortgene is a great place to stay (apart from box mooring). We are members of the Cruising Association and here we get 25% discount on our berthing fees. We needed to recharge our battery systems etc and Carole needed to look at the “Magic Laundry Basket” which Chris believes empties itself and puts away clean. While Carole looked after the laundry, Chris attended to deck and cockpit cleaning duties and some work related issues, so we both made good use of the day. We rewarded ourselves with a visit to a local bar cafe for supper and a cool beer. We strolled back in the sunshine to watch some TV before bed.

We were up fairly early so Carole disappeared to the laundry room to do the last of the washing, before showering and returning for breakfast. We then walked into town to visit the shops to buy fresh bits and something nice for dinner. We found an interesting shop that sold all sorts, which meant we were able to buy a scrubbing brush, matches and some swimming shoes at the same place. Again, we had to use Euros here as the shop owner told us that the fees charged by MasterCard were too much for them to use, which is quite understandable.

We had a lazy afternoon on the boat, followed by a tasty supper and an equally lazy evening before bed.
