Lymington

18th May

Left Yarmouth about 11:00 for a gentle sail across to Lymington. The tide was setting west and we were beating to wind up the Solent, playing with the ferries going back and forth. Soon it was time to get into the approach channel and we followed the inbound ferry. Halfway into the channel we met the outbound ferry at the narrowest part on a bend. It did not look as if we had any room to pass as the ferry had to swing to his port (that is the Left side to you land lubbers) but all went well and we passed ok with a deep sigh of relief. Once we had tied up we went off for a walk into the town, which is quite quaint with lots of small shops and a cobbled town quay. As we hadn’t had lunch today, the wonderful smell of the fish and chip shop coaxed us into sharing a bag of chips, which tasted as good as they smelled!

After dinner we relaxed to the sound of the ferry’s foghorn as quite a peasouper had descended on the waterfront. Fortunately, this completely evaporated in the small hours of the night
