Weymouth

23 May

We left Poole Quay mid-morning to catch a favourable tide round Anvil Point. The high speed Condor Ferry was also leaving Poole accelerating as it passed close to us. The noise from the engines was very deep and loud. The wind was forecast north F4/5. We rounded Anvil Point sailing very well making a good 7 knots through the water. We had to keep some distance off shore (5 miles) as the firing ranges of Lulworth Cove were active. The sun was warming us up and we settled in as the boat sliced through the water. As we were approaching Portland we (well the skipper) decided that it looked a bit “grey” so headed into Weymouth.

Carole radioed into Weymouth, enquiring about the bridge opening times. 18:00 was the next one so we took to the waiting pontoon by the bridge. This is a very pretty fishing town and was full of people watching the harbour sitting have a drink in the many cafes along the harbour walls. Once through the bridge we were allocated a berth. As the smell of chips from the harbour was still on our minds we strolled back and had fish & chips sitting on the harbour wall.

The weather next day was warm and sunny and was a good day for chores around the boat. Weymouth does not have a hose pipe ban so I washed the deck and Carole cleaned below decks. (Note to skipper: Must CLOSE ALL windows before using hose) All looked very nice, particularly the port cabin!
