Strijensas

Willemstad to Strijensas

12th June

Carole sorted out the laundry while I cleaned and scrub the decks.  Just to make sure that our mast height was correct Chris decided to measure the height.  I had thought about sending Carole up the mast but I found a better method by sending another line up the mast a measuring that plus the distance to the water line.  We confirmed that we need minimum of 17.5 mtr plus a bit for the radio aerial. So 18mtrs or the aerial gets it.

The night was warm and one of the first that we did not need heating.  We got ourselves ready to leave mid morning.

we topped our fuel tank at Willemstad and headed off in warm sunshine.  The wind was light and we were heading directly into wind, so the engine was on.

As there are strong tidal streams heading toward Dordrect via Hollands Diep we planned to stop over at Strijensas, and leave to catch the early tide Saturday morning giving us a good push.   We found the approach channel to the Jachaven and soon found a box mooring for the night.  Skipper and crew managed to get into the mooring quite well.  As we were only there for the night we did not bother with the Electric hook up.  This is a small clean friendly marina for an overnight stop but the nearest shops are a long way 5k! The WiFi at this marina is very poor as we are a long way from the harbourmasters office.  Chris had noticed that the Dutch Curtesy Flag is starting to shred due to the wind over the past weeks.

We are now sitting on the boat listening to all the bird songs.
