Newton river to Yarmouth

14th August

We enjoyed a nice quiet, settled night on the buoy and awoke to sunshine and a gentle breeze. After a couple of bowls of cereal to fortify himself, Daniel was up on deck with Chris eager to get fishing. Carole was down below keeping busy doing a few chores. There was no rush to leave the Newton river today as the tide wouldn’t be turning until mid-afternoon and then we would have a nice quick sail to Yarmouth. We had also pre-booked our berth for the next three nights so we knew there would be no hassle getting in.

There were fish in the river but neither Chris nor Daniel were having any luck in catching them with either the rod, line or net. There were a couple of nice sized ones swimming round the mooring buoy nibbling on the vegetation growing on it. Perhaps they were vegetarian fish! Anyway, there would be no fish supper tonight.

We had some lunch and after tidying away, Chris took Daniel for a buzz around in the inflatable. We then brought the outboard in and tied up the inflatable on the stern ready for our short trip to Yarmouth.

We slipped our lines from the mooring buoy and headed out of the river under engine. There was not enough breeze to sail, so we continued under engine and within the hour we had radioed in to Yarmouth harbour, followed the berthing master to our berth and tied up safely for our stay.
