Yacht Seaduction 2023

Newtown Creek

18th August – Thursday

We awoke to a lovely bright morning and after breakfast and showers onboard, we got organised for our short sail into the Newton River. Chris filled our water tanks and checked our charts and books as we had not been there before, but from what we had read we wanted to visit. Daniel and Bobby were looking forward to going there, too.

We slipped our lines and before leaving Yarmouth we refuelled with diesel. Then we made the short trip along to the entrance for the Newton River. We followed another boat in and very soon picked up a visitor’s mooring buoy and got ourselves settled in for the night. It was a very pretty place and not crowded. We had a visit from the friendly harbour master who gave us a leaflet and some advice of what was here in exchange for some cash. Chris then sorted out the dinghy and we spent the afternoon messing around in the water around the boat. Bobby put on her life jacket to jump in, but Daniel, being a good swimmer, didn’t need his. Carole got in sensibly, via the steps and Chris was on standby in the dinghy as ‘safety officer’. All three of us swam in the still cool water, but it was great fun. Once we had dried off, Chris took it in turns with the children teaching them how to row. Bobby proved to be quite proficient. After supper we settled down to play Yahtzee and read our books before settling the children down for the night. We were not that long behind them. It had been a busy day.
