Yacht Seaduction 2023

Middelburg

Sunday, 23rd June, 2019

The Harbour Master’s office opened at 08:00 and we were then able to organise and pay for our berth for Saturday and Sunday night. We were put in a Box mooring near the entrance which was nice and wide. We went stern in and got tied up without too much trouble. Our main task was to provision for our stay away from the town on some of the small Islands on the Veers Meare.

The weather was forecast to get very warm for the next week with the temperature expected to be over 34C. Middelburg is a lovely Dutch town with a good sized supermarket and small bakers, etc. Much to Chris’s surprise, Carole navigated us to the shops without getting us lost. Note of interest is that not all shops accept MasterCard, so always take some Euros for just in case. After lunch, we took a stroll around the town and decided we would prepare and eat supper on board tonight as eating out here seemed very expensive. (No reasonable Wetherspoon type pub/restaurants here!). The afternoon had become very warm, so Carole put on her swimming costume and after locating some steps to get in and out of the water safely, with the help of a nice Dutch lady two boats along (Spirit) enjoyed a nice refreshing swim in the canal. Chris advised water temperature was around 22.5 degrees, but declined to go in yet. After drying off and relaxing in the sunshine, a blue cheese and walnut salad was prepared for supper, which was accompanied by the requisite glass of wine. We then had a good game of scrabble before turning in for the night.
