Studland Bay to Weymouth

Studland Bay to Weymouth

13th July

We set off out of Studland Bay keeping Old Harry’s Rocks a mile to starboard, then continued past Swanage. We had both sails up now sailing for Anvil Point. We had to keep about 5 miles off as there were some overfalls and an active firing range at Lulworth Cove. We were halfway to our waypoint when we heard Lulworth Firing range announce that they had finished firing for the afternoon. We however carried on our course to miss the overfalls. Chris discovered that our friends Liz & John on Rascal had left Alderney in the Channel Islands heading for Weymouth. Chris called Rascal on the VHF radio and Liz replied, but due to distance the reception was not good. We left this for about an hour and established contact via VHF and AIS. We would arrive at Weymouth about 1 hour ahead of them. The wind eventually dropped and the engine was on. We arrived at Weymouth at 17:15 and had to wait for the bridge to open at 18:00. When through we found our berth, halfway down the pontoons with a spare space next to us. Chris visited the office and “upgraded” Rascal’s berth to the one next to us. Rascal came through the bridge at 20:00 we were there to take their lines, say hello and then leave them to get themselves sorted for the night as it had been a long day for them.
