Southampton

We left the boat at Southampton Quay Marina for a week to go back home. We had a good journey back via London by train and tube and it wasn’t until we stepped off the bus at Southampton Quay that it started to rain.

Chris connected the Laptop and Ipad to the free Wi-Fi although it worked Chris was puzzled why it only worked for 30 minutes at a time then nothing for about an hour. The problem was that Chris connected to the Red Funnel Wi-Fi, as soon as the ferry left so did his Wi-Fi !

On checking the weather forecast, we realised we would have to have another day in Southampton before we could head off to Yarmouth, unless we wanted to sail there in heavy rain and strong winds, which we did not.

Wednesday morning began early with the wash from turning ferries bumping us around. After showers and breakfast, Chris took some work related calls while Carole did the dishes and tidied up. We then headed off to visit the SeaCity museum near the civic centre, walking there instead of catching the bus as we couldn’t squeeze on it was so packed from the queue of ferry passengers disembarking.

We spent an interesting hour and a bit in the SeaCity museum. Its exhibits included one on Southampton’s story around the Titanic and another on the history of the big cruise liners. We then walked back to the marina via McDonalds (lunch) and the Co-op for a few provisions for the next day or so. We also visited the marina office to pay our dues as we were definitely leaving here Thursday.

We had intended to watch some of the tennis at Wimbledon when we got back on board, but after two disturbed nights’ sleep, our bunks beckoned for a couple of hours sleep to catch up.

Chris then sat and worked out our route to Yarmouth, with a departure time of around 9.30 am. We then chilled out until midnight when boat movements quieten down and settled down to sleep.
