Yacht Seaduction 2023

Sovereign Harbour Cont’

11th June

We should have had a lie-in this morning, but our body clocks seem all out of sorts and we were wide awake at 7 am, so we got up and had breakfast, tidied up and washed and dressed and headed into Eastbourne. Chris was a man on a mission – to buy a crab, a big one for lunch. It was a very pleasant morning, with warm sunshine and gentle breezes – ideal weather for when you are not sailing. We passed many joggers, serious cyclists and dog walkers, all making the most of the good weather.

We reached the fresh fish and seafood shop (Sally and Tony’s favourite haunt when they are in Eastbourne) by 10 am, but were disappointed to be told that all their spider crabs had been sold. Luckily they still had a few brown crabs, the biggest of which was duly weighed and bagged to be taken back for lunch. We strolled back to the boat, stopping briefly to sit in the sunshine with a cuppa (for Chris) and an ice lolly (for Carole). The table was laid with our seafood goodies, bread and salad and before too long all that remained of the crab was just shell and inedible bits. Chris was definitely full of crab and very happy. Tidying up was swift as we didn’t want any fishy smells lingering to remind us of our lunch later.

The rest of the afternoon was spent chilling out, using the marina’s splendid shower facilities and taking a walk round the whole marina. Chris was disappointed not to be able to wander around the chandlers shop as it appeared to have closed down.

We had a very light supper and then settled down to watch the England v. Russia football match. It was a shame it was only a draw, but we thought England played really well in the first half. It was then into our beds for a reasonably early night ready for an early start in the morning
