Brighton
11th May
Carole and I caught a bus into Eastbourne getting the top deck front seats, something
we have not done for years. We ate our lunch in the gardens overlooking the water
and on our way back visited a fish shop just off the beach which only sells locally
caught fish. On the counter display there was a large Spider Crab dwarfing the other
crabs. We had seen these crabs on a BBC programme some months ago so we put this
in our rucksack (which it only just fitted) cost for the crab £3.50! It was very
messy to dismantle but was a very tasty evening meal.
Weather forecast for the next 48 hours was not looking good again. We decided to
make a run for Brighton. Forecast was S-SW F5 -6 increasing F7 -8 later. We had to
get past Beachy Head just before the tide turned. All went to plan and the tide helped
us. Carole was checking our position on the light house as we rounded Beachy Head
and once the light house was 360 degrees we could change course to Brighton. We made
good speed again 6-7 knots. On the approach to Brighton Marina it was difficult to
find the entrance but it soon became clear. We entered then found a berth for the
night. What a night! The wind had increased as per the forecast and our new wind
turbine was whizzing, making enough electricity to power the Marina. It was like
sleeping in a tumble drier.
