Falmouth
8th July
We left Helford late morning heading towards Falmouth. The wind was from the North
West and still blowing a bit. We sailed up the River Fal through Carick Roads and
moored up for the night at the visitors’ pontoon just past Ruan Creek. This was a
good sheltered spot with only three other yachts tied up and proved to be a very
peaceful berth. However, we did not have any television signal or internet and only
the Orange mobile network intermittently accessed. After a good dinner we settled
in to watch a DVD we bought some weeks ago.
We both slept soundly and awoke to find that everyone else on our pontoon had left.
Chris, not known for his patience decided that we should also leave now and have
breakfast on the way. From getting out of bed to slipping our lines must have taken
6 minutes. Chris said it was good to practice a quick getaway. Only later did Carole
realise why!
We sailed back to Falmouth Marina so we could watch the Wimbledon Final and do some
laundry and shopping. Once safely tied up we had a good shower and completed our
tasks in time to watch Andy Murray’s valiant attempt on the Wimbledon title. Sadly,
it wasn’t to be, as Roger Federer played that little bit better, but the game was
well worth watching
