Brighton
1st August
We Left Gosport at midday to catch the tide to Brighton. The wind was still a bit
brisk with a moderate sea. Our passage plan was to go through the Looe Channel which
is a shortcut just off Selsy Bill. The channel is only about 100Mt wide between two
rocky ledges. With a red and green bouy marking the way. This saved us about 2 hours
so worth the try. As we were approaching the Bill the sea started to get a bit more
lumpy with on rouge wave hitting hard on our starboured side crashing water over
the decks. Soon we could see the two bouys marking our channel and this took us safely
through.
We changed course for Brighton and the further we got away from the Bill the calmer
the water was. On our approach to the Marina the sea had developed a large swell
at the entrance tossing us about and the sea breaking into the sea wall. We radioed
into Brighton Marina for a berth. Most Marinas use a pontoon system of a Letter for
the pontoon and a number for the berth. Brighton use a system of a number for the
pontoon and a number for the berth. Our allocation was 8 38 this sounded very much
like H 38! Always difficult to find your way around new marinas.
The next Day we had two more crew members staying with us ready for our next leg
to Eastbourne where their mum and dad will hopefully be. These two crew members are
small but take a lot of room on the boat
