Spring

After the winter maintenance we launched Seaduction back at Ipswich on the 3rd April 2013.  One major job this year was replacing the rudder bearings as the rudder was becoming stiff to turn.  This was due to the bearings swelling up gripping the rudder stock.  A big thank you to Warwick who came down to Ipswich and dug a big hole below the rudder so we could remove it. Another difficult task was to refit the wind generator to the boat,  Carole and I had to lift the wind generator trying to put the wiring down the tube and aligning the spigot.

Other extras we added this year was an automatic toilet sanitiser, USB sockets for Ipad and phones etc and a new Battery master switch.

It is always a worrying time putting the boat back in as you have to make sure that all is water tight and that the engine will start as she has been out of the water for 5 months, not to mention the skipper and crew.  The weather is still cold but we were able to flush the water tanks and fill with fresh water without risk of the water freezing.  Over the next few days we put the sails on ready for our first sail.

Back in the Water

We have been given a new berth B8 very near our original one. Everything went to plan and after a few days we where ready for our first sail down the River Orwell.

It did not take us long to get back into sailing. As the weather was still cool we did not want to be at anchor overnight  until the thermometer started to climb.  The river was very quite and most of the moorings did not have any boats.  We often picked up a mooring buoy off Levington for lunch and relax in the afternoon sun although the air was still cool.
